I stayed at my friends house for two nights and when I came home today to get some money to go shopping my friend asked me "Whats wrong with Oreo?" my eyes widened as I kicked off my boots and ran into my room to see him. Usually when you rattle the cage or touch him he'll get up, but when I saw him he was laying down by his food dish not moving, I said to myself, "He's only sleeping, he's only sleeping." my friend rattled the cage and he didn't even flinch, a ran over to it and opened it, a carfully put my hand in the cage to touch him. His body was getting cold, but still held a bit of warmth, he was stiff and his paws were purple. I started flipping out and ran into my moms room and layed down on the bed, I told my friends to leave because I wanted to be alone. I cried for two or three hours before I cleaned up his cage and stuff. My father is going to put him in the freezer until spring when the ground thaws out before we bury him in my back yard. In his box I'm putting one white and one black rose, those were his colours and the white rose is to symbolize his life, the black is to symbolize his death. I will also put the roses on his grave sticking out from under a rock so nothing can dig him up.
Oreo was the only pet I had that would let me talk to him. He loved me and was very tame.If my mother was holding him and I was near by he would try to run back to me. Whenever I put him on my floor to run around he would run back to me. He never bit unless you had the scent of food on your hands or were feeding him and he accedentaly reached out to far, nipping your fingers. Oreo loved to lick you and would sit on my shoulder for hours without moving. I'm just glad he didn't suffer. My mother hadn't seen him the night before which means he must've died sometime between last night and this morning. His food dish was full and his water fresh, though he wasn't to fat, he was quite thin from old age. I was lucky he lasted two years, which is the average for a rat. I only wish I was at home, holding him when it happened.
I may go and get another rat, then again maybe not. I still have some food and shavings from him.
You will always be with me in spirit, as I will never let you go, Oreo.
